Udaya:
1) Arising.
2) Ascent.
Upādānakāraṇa:
Of the four causes (catuṣkāraṇa), this is the material cause.  For example, the material cause of a clay pot is clay.  The original material cause being nature (prakṛti).  See Kāraṇa.
Upaniṣad:
Secret doctrine, which reveals the hidden meaning of the Vedas.
Upari:
Above, as opposed to below (adhas).
Upastha:
See Jihvā/Upastha.
Ut:
Ascending.  See below.
Utsarpiṇī:
The ascending arc, as opposed to the descending arc (avasarpiṇī).  See Kālavāda.
Uttara:
1) Subsequent, following, later, as opposed to previous (pūrva).
2) Higher, as opposed to lower (avara).
