Sūtra 2.1

त्रिविधं प्रमाणस्य प्रत्यक्षानुमानशब्दाः ॥ २.१ ॥
trividhaṃ pramāṇasya pratyakṣānumānaśabdāḥ ‖ 2.1 ‖

trividham: three kinds; pramāṇasya: of proof; pratyakṣa-anumāna-śabdāḥ: direct perception + inference + testimony

“The three kinds of proof are direct perception, inference, and testimony.”

Sūtra 2.2

योगजप्रत्यक्षं प्राधानिकम् इन्द्रियजप्रत्यक्षम् अप्राधानिकम् ॥ २.२ ॥
yogajapratyakṣaṃ prādhānikam indriyajapratyakṣam aprādhānikam ‖ 2.2 ‖

yogaja-pratyakṣam: born of yoga + direct perception; prādhānikam: primary; indriyaja-pratyakṣam: born of the senses + direct perception; aprādhānikam: secondary

“Direct perception born of union is primary; direct perception born of the senses is secondary.”

Sūtra 2.3

त्रिविधम् अनुमानस्य पूर्ववत्शेषवत्सामान्यतोदृष्टानि तत् पूर्वकं लिङ्गलिङ्गीयौ ॥ २.३ ॥
trividham anumānasya pūrvavatśeṣavatsāmānyatodṛṣṭāni tat pūrvakaṃ liṅgaliṅgīyau ‖ 2.3 ‖

trividham: three kinds; anumānasya: of inference; pūrvavat-śeṣavat-sāmānyatodṛṣṭāni: a priori + a posteriori + generally seen; tat: it; pūrvakam: preceded by; liṅga-liṅgiyau: middle term + major term

“The three kinds of inference are a priori, a posteriori, and generally seen.  It is preceded by the middle term and the major term.”

Sūtra 2.4

त्रिविधः शब्दस्य श्रुतिस्मृतिसूत्राः ॥ २.४ ॥
trividhaḥ śabdasya śrutismṛtisūtrāḥ ‖ 2.4 ‖

trividhaḥ: three kinds; śabdasya: of testimony; śruti-smṛti-sūtrāḥ: revelation + remembrance + aphorisms

“The three kinds of testimony are revelation, remembrance, and aphorisms.”
